Pandering
At its most basic, pandering refers to any activity that aids in the unlawful act of prostitution. Under Florida law, it is illegal to make a profit off of the earnings of a prostitute. Pandering is commonly referred to as “pimping” or “soliciting.” An individual who engages in pandering is referred to as a “pimp,” and typically acts as middle man between the prostitute and his/her costumers.
There are a number of illegal acts that warrant pandering charges. These acts include:
- Soliciting costumers for a prostitute
- Recruiting a prostitute
- Finding a location for a prostitute to perform sexual acts
- Renting a space, structure, or trailer for purposes of prostitution
- Persuading, encouraging, enticing, or compelling a person to engage in prostitution
- Transporting a prostitute to a location where he/she will perform sexual acts for money
- Operating a prostitution business
A more serious crime related to pandering is sex trafficking. It is illegal to bring a person into the United States for purposes of working as a prostitute. Furthermore, any individual that forces, coerces, or threatens another person into prostitution will also face serious criminal charges. These crimes are felony offenses, and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Pandering is typically a misdemeanor offense, however, if you receive compensation from the earnings of a prostitute, or if you use force or threaten to harm a prostitute, you will be charged with a felony.
